The Ultimate Christmas Meme

As we have now reached the 20th of December & the big day is just 5 more sleeps away for the majority of people, it’s 6 sleeps in our house but that’s another story, I thought I would join in with the Christmas themed Meme that Tas from NotMyYearOff tagged me in & that was created by Carolin from Mummy Alarm.

So here are my answers to The Ultimate Christmas Meme:

1. The Christmas song I can even listen to in June is…

Fairytale of New York by The Pogues and Kirsty MacColl – I love this song!

2. Hot chocolate, egg nog or mulled wine?

I love egg nog, when I was little I was always treated to a snowball on Christmas Eve at the hairdressers where my Mum worked – I never knew that egg nog was alcoholic until I was much older!  I was delighted when I saw that a certain coffee establishment was offering egg nog lattes over the Christmas period & I have to admit I have had a fair few – fortunately the egg nog they use is non-alcoholic :-)

3. When do you put your decorations up?

We usually put our decorations up on the first weekend in December that we have all our children together – this year they went up on 3rd December.

4. What are you having for Christmas dinner?

On Christmas Day Dad2Four, Youngest Son & I will be going to our local Indian restaurant for a meal as the other children aren’t with us.

On Boxing Day (our Christmas Day) we shall be having a traditional Christmas dinner with all the trimmings all pre-prepared by the Christmas Fairies at M&S.  I refuse to spend hours of my Christmas Day cooking whilst everyone else has fun playing with their presents – so we get food that we can simply put in the oven & then we can all ave fun with the new toys.

5. What’s your favourite Christmas tradition?

My favourite tradition is leaving the mince pie, bottle of beer, milk & carrot out for Father Christmas & his reindeer.  It is at this point that the children get REALLY excited!

My 2nd favourite tradition (you’re allowed more than 1 favourite at Christmas) is that we turn the tree lights out before we go to bed & Father Christmas turns them back on when he has left the presents.  This stems back to the days when my Dad worked nights over the Christmas period and wouldn’t be home with us until 10am, which meant we couldn’t open our presents until then either.  Mum told us that if we could see the Christmas tree lights through the frosted glass window between our kitchen & lounge then Father Christmas had been.  I still do this now for the children despite us not being able to see through a closed door!

6. Have you ever gone carol singing?

Never, as I am tone deaf – a dear friend of mine is a Music teacher & she has on many occasions asked if I could mime rather than actually sing in her presence!

7. When did you discover the truth about Santa?

What truth?  In our house if you don’t believe then you don’t get anything – so I Believe!!!!!!

8. How do you decorate your Christmas tree?

We have a mix of colour coordinated baubles, wooden toys & decorations made by the children.  The lights have to be white and thee is absolutely NO tinsel allowed!

10. All I want for Christmas is…..

My one wish would be to have a Christmas Day actually on Christmas Day with all 4 of my children, like the majority of people do!

Indian? Why the hell not! Hope you have a fabulous Boxing Day and hopefully next year you can have your ‘normal’ Christmas.

Good for you not being a slave to the kitchen. Hope you manage all your children together next year

Oh Thanks for tagging me lovely this looks like a lot of fun, I am sorry you haven’t got the kiddo’s xmas, one of the downsides to being a seperated family, I never realised until recently how much our Dad missed us on Xmas day as we always spent with my mom.
I love some of your traditions and I LOVE the fact you don’t have tinsel the amount of people who make comments to me as I dont xxx

Your Xmas traditions sound lovely and it’s so nice how you still keep the magic alive for all of them. Could you book Xmas 2012 with all the kids from now?

I would love to be able to book Christmas 2012 with the kids but unfortunately the court order that is in place only allows us to have Middle Son from 4pm on Christmas Day – which surprisingly is better than the not at all we were first told would happen!
